PART - A
What is the plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and what is the outcome by the end of the year?
Promotion of research culture among the faculty
To develop well planned internal assessment for evaluation and assessment for the students.

The college administration persuaded the teaching staff of the college both PG./UG to take-up research work in their respective disciplines.

The college developed a well planned internal assessment by conducting two compulsory tests/Assignments for the students to award internal assessment marks which is mandatory. A separate examination cell was established to look into the examination affairs.

 
PART - B
Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institutions :
Al-Ameen Arts, Science & Commerce college was started as a minority institutions to serve the cause of education in ensuring access to quality of life through need based excellence in education.

Dr. Lee Morin Ph.D in Bio-Chemistry/Astronaut & Deputy Secretary for health space and science USA was invited to deliver a lecture on his research & experience during his stay in international space station on 25th June 2004.

Mr. Hussain Ravish Counsel General of Iran and Mr. Poor Mansoori, Counselor, Mr. S.M. Ayotollahi political attaché gave a talk on friendly ties between the countries.

Dr. Tasneem. F. Khaleel Chairman, Bioscience of Montana State University USA addressed the students and staff on 19th July 2004. She highlighted on opportunities for Indian Students to continue Education in U.S Universities.

Mr. Michael Anderson, Minister counselor for public affairs US consulate, New Delhi visited the college on 24.10.2004 and addressed the students and staff on building Al-Ameen College Us embassy knowledge exchange Programmes. A separate section in the library was started with books & CD’s
on American literature, History, Science & Technology with help of U.S Embassy.

Community Service :
The Staff and students of the college organized fund collection Drive for Tsunami flood victim. A cheque of Rupees 102050/- was handed over to chief Minister of Karnataka.
10 day special N.S.S Camp was held from 27.12.2004 - 5.01.2005 at Girigowdana Doddi, somanahalli, Bangalore South Bangalore. During the camp the NSS volunteers educated the villages about Hygiene and environment the volunteers also prepared a playground for local school students, and cleaned the temple premises.
On the request of the Govt of Karnataka a Five Days “student’s Internet world 2004” was organized from 1.11.2004 to 5.11.2004. This was a part of Bangalore.com programme of Govt Karnataka for Govt School Students.
A three day Annual Exhibition was organized to create awareness among school & college going students in science & technology.

Improvement in Library Services:
 
New books and Journal worth Rs. 160897 have been added to the library so that students can update their knowledge of the subjects. All important reference books are available to the students helping them to prepare for seminar debate project work and competition. The reading room is kept open beyond working hours of college. We have also initiated the computerization of library.

No. of courses for which student assessment of teachers is introduced and action taken on students feed back.
The feedback from students was taken for all classes Viz., B.A., B.Sc., B.Com to know the weaknesses and strengths of the teachers and to take corrective measures to make teaching more effective and purposeful.

A committee of three senior faculty members and principal was constituted. The committee interacted with individual teachers and suggested corrective measures for enhancement of good work.

The unit cost of education for the year 2004-2005 is Rs. 6410/-

Financial aid to students :
About 150 students were admitted with a concessional fee which amount to Rs.13 Lakhs. Apart from this Al-Ameen Scholarship committee provided scholarship to about 100 students for poor and deserving students.
 
Health Services :
The health services are provided to the students. Doctor is available on call basis.
 
Performance in Sports Activities :
Volley Ball
Our College won the All-India inter collegiate volleyball tournament at CMC Vellore.
Won Bangalore University inter collegiate south zone tournament
Our College won spiel tournament at St.Joseph College, Bangalore.
Champion in Christ College Volley Ball Tournament at Siddhartha college Vijayawada, we bagged the third place in the tournament.
8 Boys were selected to represent Bangalore university volleyball team.
Our College boys were selected for junior state team to represent junior nationals.
Our Volley Ball team are the champions of the St.John’s Medical All India intercollegiate tournament.

NIIT State level football tournament organized by NIIT Bangalore
State level intercollegiate tournament organized by Rotary club Indiranagar, Bangalore and Karnataka state football association, Bangalore
8 players were selected to represent, Bangalore university football team.
 
Wrestling
Our college wrestling teams were runners up in B’lore University intercollegiate competition. Two students were selected to represent for Bangalore University team.
 
Archary
Three students were selected to represent Bangalore University team.
 
Net Ball
One student was selected to represent Bangalore University competition.
 
Judo
College Judo team were overall champions in the inter collegiate Bangalore University competition.

5 students were selected to represent Bangalore University and 4 students were selected for state Judo team.

 
Athletics
The college Athletic team won overall championship for 19 consecutive years in the inter collegiate athletic organized by Bangalore University 9 Boys were selected to represent Bangalore University Athletic Team.
 
Cricket
The College cricket team were champions at “Kula Lumpur super cup international tournament held at Kula Lumpur Malaysia”. Our college team won the St.John’s Medical College Cricket tournament held at Bangalore.

Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit Tutorial system :
A mentor scheme is adopted to help & guide students in their all round development. 30 students are assigned to each teacher to monitor attendance and performance in studies. The teacher acts as a local guardian and helps in solving their problems.
 
Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit
The special feature of this year is the setting up “Career information and employment Bureau”. Prof. Rahmath Ataaz, HOD of Zoology is the Coordinator of this bureau.

A workshop on “How to face interview” was organized for the final year degree students and the resource person was Mr. Zaheer Hussain, CEO true man, Bangalore. The counseling unit has helped students to register themselves with companies like convergys, ICICI , IRIS India

 
Development Programme for non Teaching Staff.
Meetings were conducted regularly to instill a sense of responsibility in non-teaching staff specially class IV employees.
Few class C Employees were given computer training in the computer centre of our college to update the information.

Prof. R. MUSHTAQ AHMED
head of the department of Commerce was appointment as the Vice-Principal of Al-Ameen Arts, Science and commerce college. He is also appointed as Member-Board of studies in Commerce Bangalore University & Member-Board of studies, Moulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad. Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed has registered for his PhD and pursuing his research work in insurance sector.

Head of the department of History, was appointed as Director of Distance Education, Moulana Azad National Urdu University, w.e.f 1st December 2004.

STUDENT CENTRED ACTIVITES
In order to give direction and support to our students the following activities were organized during the year 2004-2005.
A group of 30 students attended a programme at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on 24th June 2004 in this programme. Mr.Harison, Astronaut & Husband of Late Kalpana Chawla and Ms.Sandras Astronauts participated and interacted with the students.

Students of Botany department organized one-day Algae Collection trip at Tippe Gundana Halli Reservoir to study Water Purification.

A 10 day plant collection tour to Darjeeling and Calcutta for final B.Sc Students.

Lectures were arranged by the Department of Zoology on.

  • Vermiculture & Organic Farming by : Dr. Radha. D. Kale Professor of Zoology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.
  • Bio-informatics & its Scope: By Dr. Nataraj D.V.Scientist, Department of Bio-Informatics, Max Plank Institute Dresden, Germany.

A Work on total quality management in higher education was organized for degree students by Dr. Siddalinga Swamy special officer TQM, Government of Karnataka. Dr. Mohd. Khaiser Ahmed, HOD of Economics co-ordinated the programme.

Natural Sciences Association conducted two guest lectures one by Dr.Mahaboob Peeran, visiting professor of chemistry, Layola University of Chikago, USA & second by Dr. Syed Akheel Ahmed, Professor of Chemistry and Director, Industry-University interaction cell, Mysore university.

A lecture was organized in collaboration with Al-Ameen Law College on the subject “Succession, inheritance and intellectual property Rights”

A lecture by Dr. Sharath Anath Murthy, professor of Bangalore University Professor of Bangalore University was organized on “Cold Atoms” by the physical science association.

A seminar on “Islamic Banking” was organized for the final year B.Com students.

A team of journalists visited the college and interacted with the student under the programme “Baat Ban Jaye” which was published in Times of India on 3rd January 2005.

The Sub-Associations of the college organized inter-class literary competitions to identify the best talents so that they can represent college at inter-collegiate level.

Bazm-e-Urdu organized prize distribution function on 6th October 2004, Mr.Khaleel-ur-Rahmans, IPS Inspector General of Police Government of Karnataka was the chief guest. Mr. Abdul Samad Executive member, Al-Ameen Educational Society and the President Karnataka Urdu Munch distributed the prizes and addressed the students.

Students of II & III year Biotechnology and Ind. Microbiology department under went online job training programme in Astra, Zenica, Shridhar Bhat Laboratory, Kidwai, KIMS Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology.
